5 ways to care for your glasses
As the saying goes, you never appreciate what you've got until it's gone. Similarly, a lot of time and money is spent on choosing that perfect pair of glasses. What’s the point of it all if you don’t take care of them after your purchase? Here are 5 simple things you can do to ensure your glasses are always in great condition.
Number 1 - Rinse
Be sure to rinse your glasses before wiping them. Tiny dust or dirt particles may have settled on your lenses unbeknownst to yourself. Although miniscule, these can be abrasive and end up scratching your lenses.
Number 2 - Air Dry
However, if possible, after rinsing it is always best to leave your glasses to dry off instead of wiping them dry. This is to ensure no extra material gets onto your lenses. However, should you be unable to set them down to dry, wipe them down with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth.
Number 3 - Use the Right Cloth
The lenses are the most important part of your glasses and as such it is important to use the appropriate cloth to wipe them down with. Avoid using paper towels or tissue papers. This is because no matter how soft they may feel on your skin, most paper towels or tissue papers are textured and can easily scratch your glasses.
Also avoid using your shirts unless they are 100% cotton. Even so, dirt from your shirt may be transferred over to your glasses which can damage them in the long run. The best cloth to use is as mentioned above - soft, clean and lint free.
Number 4 - Grip Firmly
Sometimes your glasses can break in the most casual of ways, for example, holding them incorrectly. Hold your glasses by gripping firmly the piece that crosses your nose bridge. This ensures you don’t bend your frames. Bent frames negatively affect the way you see out of your lenses and are uncomfortable to wear.
Number 5 - Store Properly
Storing your spectacles properly when not in use ensures that you do not sit on them absent-mindedly and accidentally crush them. Keeping them properly in their case also helps to prevent dirt, dust or other unwanted particles from getting onto your glasses.
Of course, this list is not exhaustive. There are many other habits you can do to ensure that your glasses are always kept in mint condition. Did we mention, we also have an essential eye care packing list for all your overseas travelling needs. If you want to read more, click here!
